Golden Barb

Introduction


This slightly elongate fish has a narrow caudal peduncle and plump sides.The general body coloration is yellow, with silver on the ventral surface.There may be some short , dark, vertical streaks or marks randomly distributed over the body, especially on juveniles; but mark usually fade with age.Female golden barb are plumper.

Maximum size is between 3 inches (8 cm) to 4 inches (10 cm)


Minimum Tank Size 


This species is very active and deserves a tank measuring at least 36" x 12" x 12"/90cm x 30cm x 30cm/85 litres.


Diet 


It is Omnivore, they will eat flakes, live and freeze dried foods such as brine shrimp, blood worms and daphnia.They can eat most of the fish foods offered.

Remark 

Differences between this species and the Schuberti Barb are slight.It is thought that they might be related.
